Art and writing are strongly linked because they express the perceptions of an individual’s sense of reality and the emotional response to that reality. As Leonardo da Vinci once said, “Painting is poetry that is seen rather than felt. Poetry is painting that is felt rather than seen.”
Natural parallels between art and language include critical thinking, composition, symbolism, mood, balance, rhythm, and sequence. As we create and discuss art, we enhance verbal, nonverbal and written communication skills. We make connections between descriptive words and attach visual meaning to our vocabulary, translating those emotions and thoughts into something tangible that can be visually communicated.
